After the great success of Astrid’s pearl-studded sweater, we thought we’d give it another go and walk you through Cristal’s great idea for an embroidered pillowcase. Adopted from her French blog “Autour du Dressing”, we get some stylish insight into simple home décor.
Cristal has chosen one of Spreadshirt’s raincloud designs as a basis for her DIY. As you can see, the colorful embroidery sewn around the gray raindrops lends a nice splash of happiness and an eye-catching 3D effect to an otherwise gloomy design.
What you need:
- a pillow case in a size of your choosing with a monotone design you feel could use a little splash of color (Cristal chose a gray raincloud)
– a pillow in the same size
– embroidery thread
– sewing needles
– scissors
Here we go:
1 – Thread the needle and tie a knot at the end of the thread.
2 – Start your threaded needle up through the inside of the pillow and embroider the floss around the drops. The size of the stitches is up to you. Cristal chose ¼” stitches.
3 – When you’ve stitched around each portion of the design, push your needle back to the inside of the pillowcase so, tie a knot and cut off the remaining thread—this was it’s hidden from plain view.
4 – Repeat this procedure for all the drops using different colors.
Tip: So you don’t have to change the thread all the time, prepare several sewing needles with different colors.
